In 1765, with the permission of his superiors, and taking advantage of the offer made to him by the Infante Don Luis, who subsidized all his expenses, he went to Rome, where he remained until 1768. He first resided in the Calasanzio College, which had the quality of Pedagogical Seminary, where he was able to appreciate the new pedagogical systems and school organization.
From this time is his Eclogue in beautiful Latin exameter, «Carolo Clementi Asturum Principis…», October 9, 1771. The composition ends with a «Naenia», or lullaby -both Latin compositions are followed by their translation into Spanish verse-, as well as the translation into Latin and Spanish of the Greek author Coluto Licopolita, entitled De raptu Helenae -fourteen Latin distichs with Spanish translation, dedicated to the infant Luis de Borbón, published in Madrid, 1770-.
